History of Belmar

• Belmar is a borough located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The area has a rich history dating back to the 1800s when it was first settled by European settlers. The borough was named after the "sea and lake" (in Spanish "mar y lago") that surrounds it.

• In the late 1800s, Belmar began to attract visitors as a seaside resort. A number of large hotels were built, and the population of the town began to grow.
