The Classic Jersey Shore, Reimagined
Seaside Heights is one of New Jersey's best-known beach towns, combining a lively boardwalk, wide ocean beaches, family attractions, casual dining, live entertainment and classic Shore nightlife in one compact, walkable destination.
The town has come a long way since Hurricane Sandy. Today's Seaside Heights is welcoming a new generation of families while keeping the boardwalk traditions that made it famous. Whether you are visiting for the day, staying for a week or returning to a favorite summer rental, there is always something happening near the beach.
Once you arrive, most of Seaside Heights can be explored on foot. The ocean, bay, boardwalk, restaurants, arcades and attractions are generally only a few blocks apart.
Top Things to Do in Seaside Heights
Enjoy the Beach
Spend the day swimming, relaxing, playing in the sand or walking along the shoreline. Seaside Heights has broad ocean beaches with lifeguards on duty during designated hours in season.
Beach badges are normally required on ocean beaches during the summer. Prices, hours and rules can change, so check the Borough's official beach information before your visit. Alcohol, smoking, fires and other restricted activities are not permitted on public beaches except where specifically authorized for an approved event.
For a quieter experience, visit the bayfront and Sunset Beach area, where you can enjoy calm water, beautiful sunsets and a different view of the Barnegat Bay.
Walk the Boardwalk
The boardwalk is the heart of Seaside Heights. It is lined with arcades, games of chance, pizza shops, ice cream stands, bars, restaurants and souvenir stores. It is equally enjoyable for an early-morning walk, an afternoon with the kids or a lively evening out.
Do not leave without trying a slice of boardwalk pizza, playing a few arcade games and taking in the ocean view from above the beach.
Visit Casino Pier and Breakwater Beach
Casino Pier offers amusement rides for children, families and thrill-seekers, along with games, miniature golf and the Sky Ride above the boardwalk. Across the street, Breakwater Beach Waterpark features slides, water attractions and play areas for different ages.
Rides, operating hours and admission options are seasonal. Check Casino Pier directly before making plans.
Ride the Historic Carousel
The restored Dr. Floyd L. Moreland Carousel is one of Seaside Heights' true treasures. The century-old carousel has been carefully restored and installed in its own pavilion near the boardwalk. Hours and availability vary, so check the current schedule before visiting.
Play the Arcades and Boardwalk Games
Seaside Heights is packed with classic arcades and prize games. Popular stops include Lucky Leo's, Coin Castle, Casino Arcade and other boardwalk favorites. It is an easy rainy-day activity and a Shore tradition for visitors of every age.
See Fireworks, Movies and Live Music
Summer brings a changing schedule of Wednesday-night fireworks, outdoor movies, boardwalk entertainment, concerts and special events. Some restaurants and bars also feature acoustic performers, bands and DJs.
Schedules can change because of weather or special events. Consult the official Seaside Heights events calendar and individual venues for current dates and times.
Family Fun
Seaside Heights is especially convenient for families because so much is within walking distance. A family day might include:
- Building sandcastles and swimming at the beach
- Riding the attractions at Casino Pier
- Spending an afternoon at Breakwater Beach
- Playing miniature golf
- Visiting the arcades and boardwalk games
- Riding the historic carousel
- Renting bicycles or surreys
- Watching fireworks or a movie on the beach
- Enjoying pizza, ice cream, candy or fresh-cut fries
- Visiting nearby Jenkinson's Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach
Young children have plenty to enjoy, but ride requirements, beach conditions and seasonal schedules should always be checked in advance.
Restaurants and Boardwalk Food
Food is a major part of the Seaside Heights experience. You will find boardwalk pizza, cheesesteaks, sausage sandwiches, seafood, burgers, tacos, breakfast spots, ice cream and plenty of treats.
Longtime favorites include Maruca's Tomato Pies, The Sawmill, Spicy Cantina, Beachcomber Bar & Grill, Steaks Unlimited, Three Brothers From Italy and several classic breakfast and seafood spots. New restaurants continue to open as the Boulevard and boardwalk evolve.
Nightlife and Live Entertainment
Seaside Heights is family-friendly during the day but still has an energetic nightlife scene. Visitors can walk between boardwalk bars, Boulevard taverns, rooftop venues and restaurants featuring live music or DJs.
The Beachcomber, Spicy's, Hooks and other local venues regularly host entertainment, particularly on summer weekends. Performers and schedules change, so check each venue's current calendar.
The town's connection to MTV's *Jersey Shore* remains part of its identity. Fans can see the Shore Store and, when tours are available, visit the house made famous by the show.
Annual Events
Seaside Heights hosts community events and entertainment throughout the year. Popular traditions include:
- The Ocean County St. Patrick's Day Parade
- The Polar Bear Plunge benefiting Special Olympics New Jersey
- Summer fireworks, concerts and movies on the beach
- Food, music and cultural festivals
- Car shows and boardwalk events
- Fall and holiday celebrations
Event names, dates and locations change from year to year. Use the official Borough calendar for the current schedule rather than relying on older listings.
Parking and Getting Around
Seaside Heights is easy to explore once you have parked, but spaces can fill quickly on summer weekends and during major events. Public metered parking is available between Central Avenue and the boardwalk, along with municipal and privately operated lots.
Rates and enforcement periods can change. Check signs, pay stations or the approved parking app when you arrive. If possible, arrive early on busy beach days.
After parking, walking is usually the simplest way to get around. Bicycles and scooters are also available from local rental businesses, but boardwalk riding rules vary by season and time of day.

A Little Seaside Heights History
Seaside Heights was incorporated in 1913 and grew into one of the Jersey Shore's most recognizable resort towns. Its history includes generations of boardwalk businesses, the beloved carousel, major fires and storms, and the dramatic rebuilding that followed Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
The image of Casino Pier's Jet Star roller coaster standing in the Atlantic Ocean became one of the defining pictures of Sandy. The boardwalk and attractions were rebuilt, and the town has continued to invest in beaches, recreation, events and family tourism while preserving its unmistakable Shore personality.
Plan Your Visit
Seaside Heights can be whatever you want it to be: a family beach day, a weekend with friends, a summer rental, a night of live music or a quiet sunset along the bay. Before heading down, confirm beach conditions, event schedules, parking information and seasonal business hours through official sources.
