Bruce Springsteen & The Stone Pony

Bruce Springsteen’s connection to Asbury Park began in its local music scene, where clubs like the Upstage brought together musicians who would help shape his sound. His debut album, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J., arrived in January 1973 and introduced the city’s name to listeners far beyond New Jersey.

The Stone Pony opened on February 8, 1974, after Bruce had already released his first two albums. Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes became an early house band, helping establish the club’s blend of rock, soul, and R&B. Springsteen’s appearances, often alongside friends and fellow musicians, strengthened its reputation and became part of its legend.

Today, the Pony remains a working concert venue where you can experience that musical legacy firsthand. Catch an indoor show or check the seasonal Summer Stage lineup for an outdoor concert near the ocean. Explore The Stone Pony’s upcoming shows.
